Shaker Heights Kitchen Renovation Before And After Gallery

This Shaker Heights kitchen remodel was extensive.  In order to create a mudroom, an exterior brick wall was removed and the salvaged bricks were used to construct a new wall and side entrance to the home.  Several walls were removed and constructed in this space to transform the old kitchen into a spectacular area for cooking and entertaining.  Custom maple cabinetry with granite tends to be par for the course in this shaker neighborhood.  Plenty of dimmable “under cabinet” as well as “in cabinet” lighting helps set the proper mood for the occasion.   Beautiful oak floors stained dark introduce just enough contrast to make the cabinets stand out.  The challenge for The Beard Group with this project was the manner in which the home was constructed.  This house (like many we work on) is 100 years old and has concrete floors throughout. That’s right, the only wood in the home is in the walls and the roof.  The first, second and third FLOORS are all four inch thick concrete with steel mesh reinforcement.  Upon demolition of the space, we did not discover one crack in the 100-year-old concrete and it was extremely tough to drill through when necessary due to aggregate content and age.  They don’t build em like that anymore… Although, we like to think that WE DO!
